How I would increase engagement in Uber application

How would you improve ubers usage from 10% to 30% with existing users and no new users? Assume it is 10% now

From what I know, people use Uber for booking rides, sending and receiving packages and for renting cars for their commute.

Current situation

We are in the middle of a pandemic so there is significant reduction in users’ commute and using Uber resources to develop the product on the rides and rental segment wouldn’t benefit the company growth and it wouldn’t help us to achieve our desired outcome which is to improve the app engagement.

Narrowing down the scope

My Opportunity discovery tree — Amarnath Nagula

I find the packages segment in the app pretty interesting. Currently the functionality offers services where people can send and receive packages.

As most of the people are stuck at home, people are on the receiving end to receive their online purchases rather than sending packages. I see an interesting change in consumer behavior i.e. people are placing online orders not only on Amazon but also on various B2C or D2C brands.

Amazon has a fully functional app which allows users to track their orders placed on amazon but i think most of the B2C brands don’t have sophisticated facility to track their orders email / text messages is the only place people can keep track of their orders.

I see some pain points here

1. tracking online orders from various online purchases.

2. Too many text messages regarding a package which is annoying for users (i see the case with me personally 😅)

I think it would be nice to have all orders from various delivery providers at one place.

My Suggestion

A process inside the package receiving function of the Uber application to track orders form USPS or UPS or FedEx

  1. A number field to enter/scan the tracking number
  2. An interface to show all the orders
  3. An in app or web interface to see the progress of the shipment (which could be sourced from the USPS or UPS or FedEx website which is free).
  4. Set an alert about a specific package.

Once users have all the information about our online purchases shipment tracking information in the app, users will want to use the app more to track their shipment which I believe will result in an increase in the engagement of the Uber App.

This is how I would answer the interview question.
